Ukraine and Sweden continue expanding their strategic cooperation in the defense industry

Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine for European Integration, Sergiy Boyev, discussed the details of strengthening cooperation in the defense industry with Brigadier General Johan Axelsson, representative of the Swedish government agency FMV.

During the meeting, the parties reviewed the details of the recent visit by Swedish defense companies to Ukraine and progress on joint ventures for producing critical weapons. 

The parties emphasized the recently signed memorandum between the Ukrainian company Radionix and Sweden’s defense concern SAAB, highlighting the importance of such cooperation based on the expertise of both companies and their contributions to Ukraine's defense capabilities.

“Ukrainian-Swedish defense relations are progressing, affirming the strategic partnership between our nations. Sweden is one of the leading supporters of Ukraine, and we are glad to share our experience in advancing joint initiatives,” emphasized Sergiy Boyev.

The production of Swedish CV-90 infantry fighting vehicles, which have proven to be reliable on the battlefield, continues to be of high relevance. The parties agreed to pursue the establishment of maintenance and repair operations for these armored vehicles in Ukraine. 

Brigadier General Johan Axelsson announced Sweden’s plans to allocate funding for innovative defense solutions, presenting a list of potential focus areas. Sergiy Boyev underscored Ukraine’s priorities, particularly countering guided aerial bombs (GABs) and enhancing capabilities to intercept enemy drones.

In conclusion, the Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine reiterated gratitude for Sweden’s ongoing military support, including the recently announced aid package, the largest since the onset of russia’s full-scale invasion. He noted that Ukraine is reviewing the list of priorities for its use.
