Ukraine and Germany are building a long-term defence partnership, Evgeniy Khmara says
Ukraine is building a long-term and mutually beneficial defence partnership with Germany. It rests on security support for Ukraine, the development of joint capabilities, and the exchange of combat experience and battle-tested solutions.
Acting Minister of Defence of Ukraine Evgeniy Khmara said this following a meeting with Germany’s Ambassador to Ukraine Heiko Thoms.
Germany is Ukraine’s largest partner in terms of security assistance. At the same time, Ukraine has what every strong army of the future will need: real experience of modern warfare, combat data and solutions proven on the battlefield.
He stressed that Ukraine is ready to share this experience for decades to come.
Ukraine’s response to the Russian aggressor
At the meeting, Evgeniy Khmara briefed the German side on Ukraine’s current needs and on its next steps in the war, both symmetrical and asymmetrical.
He said Ukraine is preparing new, strong responses to the Russian enemy. This calls for speed and for steady support from partners.
Protecting the skies is a critical priority
The two sides focused in particular on strengthening Ukraine’s air defence.
Evgeniy Khmara stressed that the need to protect the skies remains critical, above all the need for interceptor missiles capable of countering ballistic threats.
Germany’s role and leadership matter greatly here. I asked for faster deliveries of interceptor missiles capable of countering ballistic threats. We are counting on a range of supply mechanisms that will let us close this need sooner.
He added that timely assistance from partners means Ukrainian lives saved and critical infrastructure and defence industry facilities protected.
On behalf of Ukraine’s warriors, Evgeniy Khmara thanked Germany, and Ambassador Heiko Thoms personally, for their consistent support.
