The situation in the Kharkiv region remains tense, but under the control of Ukrainian forces - Rustem Umerov
In the Kharkiv region, the Russians are still trying to advance. But the Ukrainian military is fighting close to the border and has successfully repelled another enemy invasion.
Ukraine's Defence Minister Rustem Umerov said in an interview with CNN.
According to him, the situation remains tense but is under the control of Ukrainian forces.
"Together with the president of Ukraine and the commander-in-chief, we are constantly in the operations area, responding immediately to all threats and challenges. Russian troops are still shelling civilians. That is why the authorities are evacuating citizens from the border areas to safer places," he said.
Asked by a journalist whether the Ukrainian army is capable of fighting back and whether it has enough forces and means to do so, the Ukrainian defence minister said: "We are in ten years of fighting, two years of full-scale invasion. We are holding the line as best we can, but the supply of weapons is delayed, which gives the Russians an advantage. They have opened a second front to prevent us from using these weapons in time. Nevertheless, we continue to hold our positions and repel attacks while evacuating civilians from the border towns.
Rustem Umerov also reiterated that Ukraine still needs international support in the form of more weapons to more effectively counter the aggression and protect its citizens.
