The recently established Cyber Incident Response Center will protect the Ministry of Defence from hacker attacks

The Ministry of Defence has established a new dedicated structural unit, the Cyber Incident Response Center, to address cyber defense matters. The coordination of its activities will be the responsibility of Kateryna Chernohorenko, Deputy Minister of Defence for Digital Development.

“It is crucial and essential for a nation engaged in warfare and focused on defense to create the Cyber Incident Response Center under the Ministry of Defence. The enemy is attacking not only the front lines daily but also in the realm of cyberspace. The aggressor is trying to slow down our rapid development. The Center will help improve cybersecurity and respond appropriately to cyber threats,” said Kateryna Chernohorenko.

The military personnel at the Center carry out around-the-clock monitoring and response to cyber incidents.

Previously, the cybersecurity team worked at the Innovation Center of the Ministry of Defence. Establishing a dedicated structural unit will help broaden the cyber defense area of responsibility.

The key duties of the Cyber Incident Response Center include:

  • Reacting to cyber incidents and cyber attacks, and mitigating their impacts;
  • Implementing strategies to protect the Ministry of Defence's information and communication systems from cyber threats;
  • Utilization and deployment of systems for managing cybersecurity incidents and sharing information on cyber threats;
  • Cooperation with units from the National Cyber Security System and the Defence Forces in the performance of joint duties;
  • Organizing and conducting practical cybersecurity exercises;
  • Cooperation with NATO and other defense entities on cyberspace security and joint defense against cyber threats.
