The MoD has put into operation the first underground stabilization point for the Armed Forces of Ukraine

The Ministry of Defence, in collaboration with the Medical Forces "East," has launched a significant project, starting with the establishment of an underground hospital to provide primary medical care and stabilize wounded warriors. Overall, the project involves building over twenty underground stabilization points.

The stabilization point, the initial one of its kind, is positioned close to the front line to provide medical care to Ukrainian defenders in as secure a setting as possible.

Six expanded steel bunkers, each 7.6 meters long and 2.5 meters wide, form the foundation of the hospital. To secure the facility's operation, ventilation, water supply, drainage, and alternative power sources have been installed.

“Such underground stabilization points are critical for saving the lives of our service members. In the heat of intense hostilities, we must deliver maximum protection and immediate medical care to our heroes. This is the first step in a large-scale project that will strengthen our medical infrastructure and allow us to provide even more effective support to our frontline defenders,” the Minister of Defence of Ukraine Rustem Umerov emphasized.

To enhance safety measures, electronic warfare (EW) systems are integrated into the stabilization point. More than UAH 20 million was invested in the project overall.

As stated by Roman Kuziev, Deputy Commander of the Medical Forces “East”, the latest underground hospital is considered the top stabilization point available. “The capacity exists to deliver medical care to more than 100 patients daily, ultimately preserving the lives of hundreds of Ukrainian military personnel. I am hopeful for an expansion in the number of facilities of this sort,” he said.

The underground hospital comprises two full-scale operating theaters, two resuscitation stations, a work area, and a recreational space for medical staff. It is equipped with advanced medical equipment, including oxygen concentrators, ventilators, cardiac monitors, and defibrillators.

The concept of organizing the underground space and technical aspects, developed and designed by the medics of the Medical Forces “East”, adhere to NATO standards for second-echelon field hospitals (Role/Echelon 2). The hospital is capable of both stabilizing the wounded and performing up to four surgeries simultaneously.

This project is an essential step in strengthening medical support for the Ukrainian military on the front lines.

The Ministry of Defence and the Metinvest Group worked together to build the first stabilization point of this kind.
