The Ministry of Defense codified the Kozak-5MED medical armored vehicle produced domestically

The new Kozak-5MED armored medical vehicle has been codified and authorized for use in the Ukrainian Armed Forces by the Ministry of Defense. The vehicle is designed to evacuate wounded and injured servicemembers from the battlefield.

The Kozak-5MED is based on the chassis of the American Ford F-550 heavy pickup and can transport four wounded in a lying position or six in a seated position, in addition to the driver and the medical evacuation group personnel. The vehicle is equipped with an automatic transmission and a diesel engine that generates over 330 horsepower.

The medical vehicle's armor protects the personnel and passengers from 7.62 mm caliber bullets and debris. In addition, the armored car's underside is equipped with improved protection, which can withstand a detonation equivalent to 6 kg of TNT.

Currently, medics of the Defense Forces of Ukraine use different vehicles for evacuation depending on the situation. Among them are Soviet era MT-LB tracked armored vehicles modified for medical purposes, British FV104 "Samaritan", specialized "Bohdan" pickups, American HMMWV M1152, as well as various brands of quadricycles and hexocycles.

Note: According to the Main Directorate for Life Cycle Support of Arms and Military Equipment, the procedure for obtaining a NATO nomenclature code for a new model of weapons and military equipment (WME) has been simplified to 10 days. Models of domestically produced WME that have passed codification are allowed to be purchased at the expense of the state budget.
