The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine has returned gear and clothing valued at over UAH 550 million due to their low-quality
In August 2024, the Ukrainian MoD sent nearly 230,000 non-compliant pieces of goods worth more than 550 million UAH to suppliers to eliminate defects.
The non-conforming nature of this gear and clothing property led to its exclusion from the delivery to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This came to light during the technical examination of the quality of the products.
According to Deputy Minister of Defense Yuriy Dzhyhyr, following amendments in Defence Ministry Order No. 375, the technical inspection of goods has been recently relocated to the Joint Logistics Centers of the Logistics Forces Command from the supplier's premises, where it was previously carried out.
“As a result, the chance of swapping out gear and clothing that had been technically inspected at the suppliers' premises was greatly diminished,” he mentioned.
In this way, as per Yuriy Dzhyhyr, the Defence Ministry received over 1.5 million pieces of gear and clothing property from vendors in August as part of current contracts, totaling 1.6 billion UAH. Supplies were made under 84 government contracts.
In total, since the beginning of 2024, the Ministry of Defence’s Main Department of Quality Control has accepted more than 16 million pieces of gear and clothing property worth UAH 11.9 billion.
At the same time, the MoD returned 1.8 million pieces of gear and clothing property worth UAH 1.6 billion to the supplier to eliminate the discrepancy.
