The Ministry of Defence has received the green light to launch the Support Services for military personnel

Order No. 59, dated January 29, 2025, regarding the launch of the Support Service for military personnel and their families, has passed legal review and been registered by the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine.

According to the regulation, the Support Services will operate within the framework of the Ministry of Defence, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and the State Special Transport Service. Within the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the responsibilities of these Support Services will be carried out by Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) units. They will support military personnel and their families by providing consultations and assistance on legal, social, and medical concerns.

Launching the Support Services involves establishing a support system that will offer service members and their families comprehensive assistance, ranging from legal consultations to medical rehabilitation.

“Our defenders must be assured that they and their families will not be left unsupported during challenging times. We are establishing a support system that will assist in any situation—from drafting applications and resolving payment issues to providing advice on rehabilitation options after a wound, as well as offering legal consultations and psychological support,” said Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine, Brigadier General of Justice Serhii Melnyk.

As part of preparations for establishing Support Services, training was conducted for the initial cohorts of specialists. They have been trained in the essential skills for delivering legal and psychological support, coordinating medical care for the wounded, providing social welfare support to military personnel and their families, and engaging with the families of fallen, missing-in-action, and captured personnel. The training was carried out in collaboration with volunteer organizations and civilian experts.

The Support Services will collectively encompass approximately 20 support domains, thereby enhancing the social welfare framework for military personnel and their families.
