The Ministry of Defence leadership discussed with NATO delegation mechanisms to accelerate assistance

In Kyiv, a meeting took place between a Ukrainian delegation led by Deputy Ministers of Defence of Ukraine Oleksandr Balanutsa and Stanislav Haider and a delegation of NATO. Assistant Secretary General for Operations Thomas Goffus and the new Senior Representative of the NATO Representation to Ukraine Patrick Turner were part of the visiting delegation.

The main topics of discussion were the need to enhance interoperability with NATO and accelerate the promised assistance from allies. Also was proposed utilizing Ukrainian suppliers and manufacturers to speed up the supply of equipment and support Ukraine's economy.

«We are pleased to welcome you to Ukraine, which demonstrates your involvement and interest in our victory. However, we must raise the issue of fulfilling promises and the operational logistics of assistance to our military. What is promised for September must arrive in Ukraine in September. Adhering to timelines is crucial on the battlefield», – said Oleksandr Balanutsa, Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine for European Integration.

The parties discussed the implementation of several joint projects with NATO, including the NATO Security Assistance and Training Ukraine initiative (NSATU), the Joint Analysis, Training, and Education Center (JATEC), and projects under the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA).

Deputy Minister of Defence Stanislav Haider thanked NATO for all the assistance provided to Ukraine. At the same time, he called for speeding up the implementation of projects within the NSPA framework.

«Unfortunately, the speed of NSPA project implementation, except for fuel and tourniquets, remains extremely low», – said Stanislav Haider.

Assistant Secretary General Thomas Goffus also introduced the new Senior Representative of the NATO Representation to Ukraine, Patrick Turner, and reaffirmed NATO's unwavering support for Ukraine.

«We seek close cooperation to enhance interoperability, progress, and Ukraine’s accession to NATO. We are ready to act more actively on our part in terms of assistance from allies and consultations where needed», – Patrick Turner assured.

The NATO delegation was briefed on the operational situation on the battlefield, Ukraine's needs, and intelligence regarding the enemy, to which Ukraine must respond asymmetrically. The expansion of violations of NATO airspace is an issue requiring bold decisions, and Ukraine's Minister of Defense had previously initiated discussions on creating a "humanitarian shield" for critical infrastructure facilities.
