The Ministers of Defence of Ukraine and Latvia discussed strengthening the Drone Coalition
During the meeting, Rustem Umerov thanked Andris Sprūds for Latvia's systematic support to Ukraine in the fight against russian aggression.
“We discussed ways to further strengthen our powerful partnership. I am grateful to the people and government of Latvia for their steadfast support of Ukraine,” said Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov.
This year, Latvia will provide military support to Ukraine valued at about EUR 112 million and will continue to provide defense assistance at 0.25% of its GDP every year.
The Ukrainian side briefed the Latvian delegation on the current operational situation on the front and the ongoing efforts to enhance the fortifications.
Moreover, the defense ministers of both nations also talked about plans for advancing the Drone Coalition, where Latvia holds a prominent position.
At present, Latvian drones are being delivered to the Ukrainian Defense Forces. In total, Latvia plans to provide the Ukrainian military with several thousand drones of various types. Andris Sprūds also highlighted the need to enhance the Coalition's capabilities and engage additional countries.
One of the main priorities outlined in the meeting was raising drone production with assistance from the Coalition member states. Furthermore, Latvia assured its commitment to backing Ukraine's aspirations for NATO membership.
