The government has granted the TDF Commander additional authority to establish and disband volunteer formations in local communities.

The Commander of the Territorial Defense Forces has been given expanded powers to manage volunteer formations within local communities (VFLC). These amendments to the Regulations on Volunteer Formations of Territorial Communities were approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.

According to the document, the Commander of the Territorial Defense Forces may decide to disband a volunteer formation if it fails to fulfill or improperly fulfills its territorial defense tasks. Grounds for such a decision include a report or notification from an Armed Forces official or a statement from the formation's commander.

The updated Regulations also state that the commander of a VFLC may submit a request for disbandment only if it is impossible to ensure lawful assembly of the formation.

When a unit is disbanded, contracts with volunteers are automatically terminated, and their identification documents are returned to the local government for subsequent destruction.
