The development of a mobile repair workshop will enhance UAV maintenance at the frontlines
The variety and quantity of drones deployed on the battlefield continue to grow. They require repairs and maintenance.
Ukrainian manufacturers and the Ministry of Defence are collaborating to address this issue by developing a specialized mobile workshop for drones. The primary objective is to address the Ukrainian Defence Forces' need for efficient field repair and restoration of a diverse range of domestically produced unmanned aerial systems.
Oversight of the latest development is the responsibility of the Defence Innovation Directorate within the Ministry of Defence.
“Our service members are exceptionally skilled. We recognize that they are often compelled to repair aerial vehicles under challenging field conditions. To make this process more convenient and efficient, we aim to enhance the working conditions of the technicians. The new development will be deployed to the frontlines only after incorporating the feedback of its intended users,” stated Lieutenant Colonel Yevhenii Tkachenko, Head of the Unmanned Aerial Systems Department within the Defence Innovation Directorate.
The workshop will be built on a specialized all-terrain vehicle. This will enable the repair of drones in virtually any location across the country, regardless of weather conditions. With its own 11 kW power generation system, communication equipment, and dual-band routers, the workshop will operate autonomously.
The vehicles will be equipped with workstations for the installation, repair, and calibration of electronic equipment, as well as welding tasks. Tool and equipment storage solutions, including mobile racks and shelves, will be installed with a design allowing easy disassembly and outdoor relocation.
Furthermore, the cabin can be zoned to separate areas with higher emissions of harmful substances.
