The defense industry of Ukraine is expected to receive a significant boost with Denmark's investment of nearly EUR 600 million

Today, Ukrainian Minister of Defence Rustem Umerov, Ukrainian Minister for Strategic Industries Herman Smetanin, and Danish Minister of Defence Troels Lund Poulsen put their signatures on the Memorandum of Understanding concerning financial aid for defense production in Ukraine.

This arrangement is made between the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, the Ministry for Strategic Industries of Ukraine, and the Ministry of Defence of the Kingdom of Denmark.

The document outlines a strategy to draw in around EUR 600 million in investments, which will be a powerful impetus for the development of the Ukrainian defense industry. Denmark is allocating €175 million of this amount, and another €400 million will come from supernormal profits from frozen russian assets.

“It is a direct contribution to enhancing Ukrainian combat drones, missiles, and anti-tank systems. This monetary support will help us speed up the deployment of necessary weaponry to the battlefield, ultimately reinforcing the defensive capabilities of the Ukrainian Armed Forces,” emphasized Ukrainian Defence Minister Rustem Umerov.

Denmark is already actively involved in assisting Ukraine with the enhancement of Ukraine’s military capabilities. Ukraine's military obtained 18 Bohdana self-propelled artillery systems through collaboration with this country. The production was financed by the Kingdom of Denmark.

Minister for Strategic Industries of Ukraine Herman Smetanin expressed his gratitude to the Danish partners during the signing of the document: “We are grateful to the Government and the people of Denmark for their unwavering support. Not only do these investments contribute to the enhancement of Ukraine's defense capabilities, but they also play a crucial role in sustaining our economy during the war. It is a great honor for us to have Denmark as an ally.”

Rustem Umerov also highlighted that Ukraine is open to new cooperation formats with other European countries.

“Our goal is to have a strong defense industry that will ensure victory on the battlefield and regain the country's territorial integrity,” the Ukrainian Defense Minister summed up.
