The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved the implementation plan for the Maritime Security Strategy of Ukraine

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved the implementation plan for the Maritime Security Strategy developed by the Ministry of Defence.

This document aims to ensure the achievement of key objectives focused on enhancing Ukraine's maritime security.

According to the plan, the main objectives are to enhance the capabilities of Ukraine's security and defense sector, the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and the Maritime Guard of the State Border Guard Service to counter aggression and address other maritime security threats.

It also outlines the de-occupation of temporarily occupied coastal areas, internal waters, and Ukraine’s continental shelf, along with the development of the national maritime industry, inland waterway transport, and the restoration of maritime and river infrastructure damaged during the war.

Particular attention is given to addressing the aftermath of hostilities, as well as man-made and environmental disasters, with a focus on preventing pollution in both the Sea of Azov and the Black Sea, as well as in rivers.

“This is an important step towards strengthening our nation’s maritime security. The document aims to ensure the fulfillment of the tasks and objectives defined in the Strategy, which was approved by the National Security and Defense Council and enacted by a Presidential Decree,” said Ukrainian Defence Minister Rustem Umerov.

The implementation of the plan is expected to enhance security in the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov, while also strengthening Ukraine's position as a maritime state.
