The Defence Forces of Ukraine struck fuel logistics facilities and military infrastructure of the aggressor state

On May 16–17, 2026, the Defence Forces of Ukraine carried out successful strikes against facilities near moscow that support russia’s military potential. In particular, the targets included the Moscow Oil Refinery, the Solnechnogorskaya fuel loading station, the Volodarskaya petroleum-product pumping station, and the Angstrem microelectronics plant in Zelenograd, near moscow.

These facilities are part of the critical infrastructure that supports the russian army, military logistics operations, and the defense-industrial complex.

Strikes targeting the russian economy, including the oil industry, are part of Ukraine’s defense strategy outlined by Minister of Defence Mykhailo Fedorov. One of Ukraine’s goals is to deprive russia of the economic resources needed to wage war and make continued aggression economically unsustainable.

Strike on russia’s fuel logistics infrastructure

The Defence Forces struck the Solnechnogorskaya fuel loading station in the Moscow region. The facility is a critical element of the Koltsevoy (Ring) fuel pipeline system around moscow. It is used for pumping, storing, and dispatching large quantities of gasoline and diesel fuel for military needs. A fire was reported at the site.

The Volodarskaya petroleum-product pumping station was also hit. It is a key node in the pipeline system surrounding the russian capital and supports the intake, distribution, and pumping of petroleum products.

The objective: destroy fuel infrastructure around moscow

A ring petroleum-product pipeline more than 400 km long encircles moscow. The system consists of three pipelines transporting gasoline, diesel fuel, and jet fuel from the Moscow, Ryazan, and Kstovo oil refineries.

In addition to the key Volodarskaya station, the system also includes loading stations where fuel trucks are refueled for onward fuel deliveries. The Solnechnogorskaya station is one such facility.

Striking these facilities delivers a major blow to the aggressor state’s fuel logistics and military infrastructure.

Strike on a russian defense industry facility

The Defence Forces of Ukraine also struck the Angstrem microelectronics plant in Zelenograd, Moscow Oblast. The company is one of the largest manufacturers of microchips for the russian defense sector.

The facility is a significant component of russia’s military-industrial complex. It is engaged in the production of microelectronics and components for radio-electronic, optical, and robotic systems used for military purposes.

No safe haven remains for russia

This successful operation is particularly significant given that the city of moscow and the moscow oblast are among the most heavily defended regions in russia. The dense concentration of air defense systems makes targets in this area especially difficult to strike.

At the same time, the results of the operation demonstrate that russia no longer has a safe place that a Ukrainian drone cannot reach.

The Ministry of Defence thanks Ukrainian warriors for their precision. The Defence Forces of Ukraine will continue systematically degrading russia’s military, logistics, and economic capabilities.
