Stanislav Haider: "Ministry of Defence supports creation of JATEC within NATO structure"
The Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine announced at a meeting of the Defence and Security Sector Committee of the NATO-Ukraine Council.
"The Ministry of Defence is interested in the creation of JATEC as a new body within NATO. After all, the principle of commonality and co-ownership proposed by NATO will be preserved, allowing for joint political control over decision-making on JATEC activities. I am grateful to all NATO Allies for supporting our proposal," said Stanislav Haider.
JATEC (NATO-Ukraine Joint Analysis, Training and Education Centre) is a joint analysis, training and education centre established in cooperation between NATO and Ukraine. The Centre aims to enhance Ukraine's defence and security capabilities by analysing lessons learned from the Russia-Ukraine war, developing military education and training, and achieving interoperability between the Ukrainian and NATO armed forces.
Following a meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council at defence ministerial level, the decision to launch JATEC was taken in February 2024.
The establishment of JATEC as a new body will make it possible to fully strengthen the civilian component of its activities and provide greater flexibility in terms of human resources, as it will be possible to combine the presence of both military and civilian representatives.
This will contribute to the implementation of the principle of "mirror capacity building" of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which provides for the parallel development of infrastructure and support for JATEC in Ukraine," concluded Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine Stanislav Haider.
