Rustem Umerov: Ukraine will receive 60 missiles for the IRIS-T air defense system from Germany
Ukraine's Defence Minister, Rustem Umerov, held talks with German Defence Minister, Boris Pistorius, who arrived in Kyiv for a working visit. The meeting focused on discussing the urgent needs of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
As part of the negotiations, the Chief of the General Staff, Lieutenant General Borys Barhylevych, and Head of the Main Intelligence Directorate, Lieutenant General Kyrylo Budanov, briefed the German delegation on the enemy’s plans and the tools needed to counter them.
The parties paid special attention to neutralizing the enemy's missile advantage and countering guided bombs.
“We look forward to further strengthening our strategic partnership with Germany to safeguard our skies. We also emphasized the critical importance of securing additional IRIS-T air defense systems and missiles for them. Ukraine is set to receive 60 more missiles for these systems soon,” said Ukrainian Defence Minister Rustem Umerov.
Within the framework of the talks, discussions included evaluating the feasibility of supplying artillery shells, including those of 155 mm caliber. The development of armored vehicle capabilities was another priority. The Ukrainian side emphasized the importance of increasing supplies of armored vehicles, including through collaboration with other nations.
“Germany is one of Ukraine’s key defense partners in Europe. My heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Boris Pistorius and the German people for their steadfast support of our soldiers,” Rustem Umerov said.
Alongside other matters, the parties talked about Germany’s assistance in repairing Western weapons, a process that is currently underway on Ukrainian territory.
