More than 21,000 hectares of de-occupied Ukrainian territory were cleared of mines by MoD demining units in September

From September 1 to September 30, 2024, demining units of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine cleared 21,676.04 hectares of liberated areas contaminated with explosive ordnance because of the russian armed aggression.

In particular, security has been restored for:

• 21,444.67 hectares of agricultural land;
• 8.07 km of automobile roads and 15.9 km of railroads;
• 2.71 km of electric power lines.

In the ongoing efforts, mine action experts discovered and disposed 7,599 explosive devices (bringing the overall count to 400,938 since the start of the full-scale russian invasion).

In September, demining operations in the de-occupied areas involved 236 groups with a total of 1,029 people and 15 mechanical demining vehicles.

During the month, the number of certified mine action operators increased by 5 and reached 56 as of September 30, 2024.

According to the MoD’s Main Directorate of Mine Action, Civil Protection, and Environmental Safety, teams from the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the State Special Transport Service, explosive ordnance disposal units of the National Police of Ukraine, and pyrotechnic units of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine are involved in government-sanctioned units of central executive bodies carrying out operations to remove explosive remnants of war from formerly occupied areas.

Humanitarian demining of Ukrainian territory is exclusively carried out by mine action operators as stipulated by the Law of Ukraine “On Mine Action in Ukraine.”
