MoD’s DOT launches first procurement of modular body armor sets in extended configuration
For the first time, the State Operator for Non-Lethal Acquisition (DOT), the procurement agency of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, is procuring modular body armor sets in the extended 1–11 configuration, which increases the protection area through additional modular components.
The expansion of the configuration was driven by changes in the nature of battlefield injuries: over 90% of wounds are now caused by shrapnel and fragments. That is why, in July 2025, the MoD’s Main Directorate of Logistics Support Development approved three additional protective components for the modular body armor: protection for the forearms, shins, and tailbone (coccyx). This ensures broader protective coverage and improved adaptability to different combat scenarios.
The new elements are rated at a high protection level, capable of stopping pistol rounds and fragments weighing up to 1.1 grams traveling at velocities of up to 600 meters per second. In addition, the forearm and shin protectors also serve as knee and elbow protectors, providing extra comfort and safety during combat missions.
To recap, a full body armor set includes eight components:
- front and rear covers with soft ballistic element and hard armor plate;
- groin and neck protection covers with a soft ballistic element;
- shoulder and thigh protection covers with soft ballistic elements;
- cummerbund;
- load-bearing belt with a soft ballistic element.
The extended 1–11 configuration procured by the DOT also includes the aforementioned additional components.
Thus, this body armor set enhances personnel protection and ensures better adaptability to various combat scenarios.
The product comes in MM-14 (“pixel”) camouflage and features a Type 2 rigid armor plate made from ceramic composite materials.
