MoD clarifies: In response to service members’ requests, trial batches of clothing and gear featuring a new camouflage pattern will be procured

Back in June 2025, the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine approved samples of an additional camouflage pattern, MM-25, following a request from the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and numerous demands from service members. This new pattern will be applied in making clothing and gear items. The procurement of a trial batch of products in the new color patterns has already been announced.

This does not currently imply a complete replacement of the existing MM-14 (‘pixel’) pattern by MM-25. The new pattern is considered as an additional color option, similar to the already approved variants like ‘olive,’ ‘coyote,’ and MM-16F.

The Central Directorate for the Development of Logistics Support has already approved the updated Technical Specification A01XJ.29979-539:2025 (02) “Cotton and Combined Fabrics,” which now includes the MM-25 camouflage pattern. To date, manufacturers (suppliers) have submitted more than ten requests to the Central Directorate for Logistics Support Development to review and study the camouflage pattern and color scheme.

“The decision to approve the new camouflage pattern was driven by numerous requests from service members conducting combat missions, who are already using a similar design. Until now, their only option was to purchase such gear at their own expense. Our task is to provide the military with the necessary uniforms and gears, and to create conditions that allow Ukrainian manufacturers to officially supply the army with the required clothing and gears,” said Lieutenant Colonel Maksym Kaiola, Head of the Central Directorate for Logistics Support Development.

The introduction of the new pattern will thus provide greater flexibility in equipping service members and expand opportunities for manufacturers who already have technological solutions for printing and sewing in similar color patterns.

The MoD’s State Operator for Non-Lethal Acquisition (DOT) has already launched the first tenders for procuring trial batches of products featuring the new camouflage pattern. A limited quantity of 20,000 pieces per item is planned for delivery in 2025. This approach will facilitate testing production capacity and gradually incorporate the new camouflage pattern into the supply chain for uniforms and gears.

“We understand that the new requirements for gear and clothing supply present a challenge both for the procuring authority and for the manufacturers. Following a request from the military, we launched procurement for five items covered by these updated standards. Our goal is to ensure service members receive clothing that meets their needs, while enabling manufacturers to fulfill these orders with high quality,” said Mykyta Chichkan, Director of the DOT Gear and Clothing Programme.
