Japan’s Ministry of Defense shares cybersecurity expertise with Ukraine under the IT Coalition
Japan’s Ministry of Defense held an online workshop for specialists from the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine and the Armed Forces of Ukraine, focused on practical approaches to cybersecurity.
During the workshop, experts from Japan’s Ministry of Defense and the Japan Self-Defense Forces (JSDF) shared their experience implementing the Risk Management Framework (RMF) based on NIST standards — the leading international cybersecurity principles.
The session took place within the framework of the IT Coalition — a group of 17 partner nations supporting the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine in IT, communications, and cybersecurity. One of the Coalition’s focus areas is joint activities to enhance the protection of the Ukrainian military's information systems and data through training and knowledge sharing.
“The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine is already advancing the implementation of modern cybersecurity models. The experience of our IT Coalition partners, particularly Japan, plays an important role in accrediting our digital systems to international standards. We are adopting the best global practices to protect military infrastructure,” noted Oksana Ferchuk, Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine for Digital Development, Digital Transformations and Digitalization.
Current members of the Coalition include Belgium, Denmark, Ireland, Iceland, Spain, Italy, Canada, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Germany, the United Kingdom, Finland, Sweden, and Japan, with Estonia and Luxembourg serving as lead nations.
