In Ukraine, 128,000 km2 of land and 14,000 km2 of water area are contaminated with explosives

This is a consequence of russia's large-scale invasion, which significantly impacts the safety of civilians, agriculture, sector, and socio-economic development in the affected regions.

“These risks negatively affect the lives of more than 6 million Ukrainians,” stated Colonel Ruslan Berehulia, Head of the Secretariat of the National Mine Action Agency, who heads the Main Directorate of Mine Action, Civil Protection, and Environmental Safety, at a thematic forum at Security 2.0* expo.

He provided an overview of the current situation, progress made, and upcoming strategies to enhance the effectiveness of humanitarian demining in Ukraine.

Ruslan Berehulia also thanked Ukraine's international partners for their support and assistance: “Thanks to our joint efforts, we will rid our land of explosive ordnance meter by meter and create powerful tools to achieve the humanitarian goals of mine action.”

Such cooperation in areas impacted by the aggressor's activities will aid in establishing a safe environment, repatriating temporarily displaced persons, and reviving economic development.

*The forum titled "Financial Guidelines for Humanitarian Demining and Compensation Principles in Agriculture Sector" took place in Kyiv as part of the Security 2.0 expo, focusing on security equipment and technologies, humanitarian demining, civil defense, and first aid.
