In August, russia sustained some of its heaviest personnel and vehicle losses

In August 2026, the Defence Forces of Ukraine continued to systematically degrade the russian army’s personnel and logistics.
This is according to data from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Effectively targeting enemy personnel and logistics is among the priorities of Ukraine’s defenders, to inflict losses at a level that will force the enemy to abandon its plans of aggression. The russian army’s losses in August marked another step toward achieving this goal.
Military personnel losses sustained by russia in August
Last month, the enemy lost 42,020 personnel killed or wounded. This is one of the highest personnel loss figures since the start of the full-scale invasion.
For comparison, russian personnel losses totaled 42,860 in July, 33,760 in May, and 39,290 in June.
Statistics on russian military equipment hit in August
In the final month of summer, the Defence Forces of Ukraine hit 13,835 vehicles and fuel tankers.
During August, the Defence Forces of Ukraine also hit approximately:
- 89 tanks;
- 197 armored fighting vehicles.
In addition, 1,827 russian artillery systems were destroyed or disabled.
The systematic infliction of such losses increases the cost to russia of continuing the war and forces it to spend ever more resources on replenishing personnel, equipment, and weapons.
At the President’s direction, the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and units of the Defence Forces of Ukraine continue their systematic efforts to increase enemy losses and save the lives of our people.
As previously reported, in July the Defence Forces of Ukraine destroyed or damaged 13,998 russian military vehicles — the highest monthly total on record.
