Denys Shmyhal: Veterans play a crucial role in Ukraine’s defense capabilities and the country’s future reconstruction
Minister of Defence of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal participated in the international forum for veterans, ‘Ukraine. Veterans. Security.’
The event was attended by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, UK Minister for Veterans and People Alistair Carns, government officials, and veterans.
Denys Shmyhal highlighted the vital role of veterans in the functioning and defense of the state.
“More than 1.3 million Ukrainians hold the status of war veterans. The Ministry of Defence engages them across all levels of responsibility,” he noted.
In particular, veterans make a significant contribution to the country’s defense capabilities. The DELTA system serves as an example, being one of Ukraine’s most innovative developments.
Moreover, veterans are currently contributing to demining efforts across Ukraine and will serve as a cornerstone of the country’s reconstruction and future economic growth,” added Denys Shmyhal.
Veterans are and will continue to be a key component of the military reserve, as well as central to military-patriotic education, youth engagement, and basic military training for students.
The Minister of Defence emphasized that the Ministry will continue to enhance veterans’ participation in the National Resistance Centers and involve them in civil service.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Defence, together with the Ministry of Veterans Affairs, is implementing a social support system for service members in every unit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to simplify access to essential services and reduce unnecessary burdens.
“The top priorities are showing honor and respect to veterans, remembering those who have fallen, supporting the families of our defenders, and engaging veterans in safeguarding national security and defense capabilities. The Ministry of Defence has been and will remain a central participant in this joint effort,” concluded Denys Shmyhal.
