Denys Shmyhal: Ministry of Defence begins developing military service contracts with fixed durations
The Ministry of Defence, following the instruction of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, has initiated the development of new types of contracts for service members and the corresponding legislative changes.
The key innovation is the establishment of guaranteed service durations. The main benefits of the new contracts include:
– fixed duration of service (1, 2, 3, 4, 5+ years);
– deferral from mobilization for 1 year (except for the 1-year contract);
– additional monthly remuneration for participation in operations and annual financial bonuses;
– option to choose a military unit and position within the defined list of critical positions.
“We are responding to the key request of service members, their families, and society. The new contracts stand for fairness and predictability. We are grateful to all defenders who are fighting for Ukraine and for the future,” said Minister of Defence Denys Shmyhal.
Once the legislative amendments are adopted, all defenders — both current service members and those who will join in the future — will be able to sign the contracts.
Efforts are ongoing with the Government, the Ministry of Finance, and partners to harmonize the regulatory framework and financial mechanisms. Further details will be made public in due course.
