Denys Shmyhal: Already 25 foreign defense companies are localizing production in Ukraine
Ukraine is actively advancing cooperation with foreign companies. As of now, 25 foreign companies — including major global defense industry players — are at various stages of localizing their production in Ukraine.
In a commentary for Politico, Ukraine’s Minister of Defence Denys Shmyhal noted that each manufacturer is working in close coordination with the Ukrainian government.
“We offer our partners various models of cooperation, including the ‘Danish model’ and the ‘Build with Ukraine / Build in Ukraine’ initiative. The priority is that the main share of companies’ production be directed to the needs of the Ukrainian military,” the Minister of Defence underlined.
To minimize risks for investors and enhance the attractiveness of joint ventures in Ukraine, the government is setting up Defence City — a special legal framework for the development of the country’s defense industry. It provides for tax incentives, streamlined customs procedures, a mechanism for relocating production to safer regions, expanded state financial support, and opportunities for export and integration into global supply chains.
“We call on foreign companies to invest in Ukraine and set up their production here. Today, it is in Ukraine that cutting-edge weapons capable of shaping the battlefield are being developed. That is why investing in Ukraine’s defense industry is the best investment in the security of Europe as a whole,” Denys Shmyhal concluded.
