Canada will provide AIM missiles to Ukraine to bolster air defence and counter cruise missiles. The weapons are already en route to Ukraine.

Further defence support was discussed during a conversation between Mykhailo Fedorov, Minister of Defence of Ukraine, and David McGuinty, Minister of National Defence of Canada. The Ukrainian side expressed gratitude to Canada for its consistent and effective support to the Defence Forces of Ukraine.

Canada’s contribution to the PURL initiative was also highlighted. Recent contributions under the program have proved decisive in repelling massive enemy air attacks. Ukraine looks forward to continued PURL support throughout the current year.

The parties also discussed an agreement to facilitate drone production. Both countries have considerable potential for industrial cooperation involving Ukrainian and Canadian governments and companies. Ukraine is particularly interested in working with Canadian companies specializing in drone piloting and operations.

Another important area of cooperation remains the training of Ukrainian service members, with a focus on saving lives. The parties discussed the transformation of the training system, including a transition to a model in which leading specialists train others and training centres are gradually relocated underground to enhance safety.
