Automatic extension now applies to 90% of deferments for Ukrainians

The Ministry of Defence has expanded the list of mobilization deferment categories eligible for automatic extension. As a result, 90% of issued deferments are now extended without applications, certificates, queues, or any additional action required from individuals.

By February 2, another automatic extension cycle was completed, applying to both deferments processed through Reserve+ and those submitted via Administrative Service Centers (ASCs). This time, seven additional deferment categories were added to the system.

Why this matters

Until recently, individuals seeking to extend a deferment had to gather paper documents, visit a Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Center (enlistment office) in person, stand in queues, wait more than a week for review, and repeat the process every 90 days. This placed an unnecessary burden on both citizens and military institutions, diverting resources from mobilization priorities.

Now, in 90% of cases, the process takes place without individual involvement: eligibility is verified automatically through state registries, deferments are extended without applications or certificates, and confirmation is displayed in Reserve+. For cases not covered by automatic processing, applications are submitted through Administrative Service Centers (ASCs). As a result, queues at Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Centers (enlistment offices) related to deferments have been fully eliminated, which means:

  • less bureaucracy for citizens;
  • fewer queues and less paperwork;
  • more time for TRSSCs to focus on key mobilization tasks.

New deferment categories eligible for automatic extension

  • parents raising a seriously ill child without a disability;
  • individuals providing care for a seriously ill member of their family;
  • guardians of individuals recognized as incapacitated;
  • individuals whose spouse has a disability of Group III;
  • individuals providing care for a relative of the second or third degree of kinship with a disability;
  • single parents raising a child under the age of 18;
  • school teachers;

Automatic extension also continues to apply to previously listed categories:

  • individuals with disabilities;
  • those deemed temporarily unfit for military service;
  • parents of a child with a disability under 18 years of age;
  • parents of an adult child with a disability of Group I or II;
  • individuals whose spouse has a disability of Group I or II;
  • individuals whose relatives or whose spouse’s father or mother have a disability of Group I or II;
  • women and men whose spouses serve in the military and who have a child;
  • parents of three or more children within the same marriage;
  • students and postgraduates;
  • employees of higher and vocational education institutions;
  • individuals whose immediate relatives lost their lives or went missing in action during combat operations or martial law;
  • relatives of Heroes of Ukraine posthumously honored for their bravery shown during the Revolution of Dignity;
  • individuals deprived of liberty as a result of the armed aggression against Ukraine;
  • service members released from captivity.

How it works

Reserve+ users whose deferments are automatically extended first received push notifications about the scheduled extension and, after data processing, a notification confirming that the deferment was extended.

If no notification is received, this means that the data in state registries is insufficient or outdated. In such cases, individuals should submit the required documents at any convenient Administrative Service Center (ASC). Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Centers (enlistment offices) no longer accept deferment applications from citizens.
