Air defense, munitions, and aviation: Ukraine and Sweden discuss strategic priorities for enhancing security cooperation

Representatives of Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence held consultations with a delegation from the Swedish Armed Forces Headquarters regarding the specifics of the recently announced military assistance package.
Ukraine was represented by Deputy Defence Ministers Sergiy Boyev and Brigadier General Anatolii Klochko. The Swedish delegation included Major General Michael Sherinet, Head of Directorate of Capabilities & Finance, and Brigadier General Stefan Andersson, Head of the Ukraine Support Coordination Group.
The meeting focused on ways to enhance the effectiveness of military assistance. The Ukrainian delegation conveyed sincere gratitude for Sweden’s recently announced military aid package—the largest since 2022—amounting to approximately $1.6 billion. This package aims to strengthen air defense, artillery, satellite communications, and maritime capabilities.
“I am grateful to Sweden for its leadership. Our efforts will continue to focus on enhancing the effectiveness of our cooperation and advancing mutually beneficial capabilities,” stated Deputy Minister of Defence Sergiy Boyev.
He also updated the priority needs for the Defence Forces: strengthening air and missile defense, which remains a critical need, as well as ammunition for various weapon systems, and funding for the Ukrainian defense industry.
Anatolii Klochko addressed the matter of transferring essential equipment and technologies to Ukraine, as well as bolstering the combat capabilities of Ukrainian military aviation.
Representatives of the Swedish Armed Forces Headquarters briefed the Ukrainian side on the progress in training personnel for airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) aircraft, as well as timelines for delivering these aircraft.
