Air defence reinforcement, drone development and aviation cooperation: Mykhailo Fedorov holds talks with Poland’s Minister of National Defence

Ukraine’s Minister of Defence, Mykhailo Fedorov, held discussions with Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, on defence cooperation, with an emphasis on reinforcing air defence, advancing drone capabilities, and aircraft transfers.
Ukraine’s Defence Minister expressed gratitude to Poland for its strategic support of Ukraine. Poland plays a crucial logistical role, as approximately 90% of international assistance passes through its territory, including aid to bolster Ukraine’s energy resilience.

The discussion focused on several key areas of cooperation:
Joint defence projects and European mechanisms
“I am grateful to Poland for its participation in the PURL initiative and its readiness to jointly implement defence projects with a focus on drone development. I also highlighted the role of the NATO–Ukraine Joint Analysis, Training and Education Centre (JATEC) in Poland as a platform for analysing wartime experience, sharing expertise, and implementing NATO standards,” said Mykhailo Fedorov.
Strengthening lower-tier air defence
Polish technologies already constitute an important component of lower-tier air defence, and Ukraine stands ready to deepen cooperation and expand radar coverage.
Aviation capabilities
As a separate track of the discussions, the parties addressed the transfer of MiG-29 aircraft to Ukraine as an essential element in protecting Ukraine’s skies. Poland has already transferred these fighter aircraft in 2023. In cooperation with Polish partners, Ukraine will pursue their modernisation to increase effectiveness and enhance the ability to engage enemy targets.
“We are also ready to share Ukrainian solutions, particularly in countering Shahed drones. Battlefield data and our practical experience can be useful in strengthening the capabilities of the Polish Armed Forces. I thank Poland for its productive cooperation and for supporting Ukraine since the first days of russia’s full-scale invasion,” summarised Mykhailo Fedorov.
