Air defence, radars, electronic warfare, and drones: Sweden prepares one of its largest assistance packages for Ukraine

During a conversation with Sweden’s Minister of Defence, Pål Jonson, Ukraine’s Minister of Defence, Mykhailo Fedorov, discussed the formation of one of the largest security assistance packages for Ukraine.
Sweden is preparing a substantial assistance package comprising air defence assets and Saab-produced radars, along with contributions to Ukraine’s defence industry—additional electronic warfare (EW) systems and drones, including deep-strike capabilities.
Ukraine’s Defence Minister expressed gratitude to Sweden for its sustained support and new investments in Ukraine’s defence sector. The parties also focused on several key areas of cooperation.

Strengthening air defence and countering ballistic threats: Ukraine and Sweden are working on additional contributions to the PURL initiative to provide Ukrainian service members with critically important weapons, including capabilities to counter ballistic missiles.
Defence innovation partnership: the Brave1 cluster is considering launching a joint Brave–Sweden programme. Through a co-financing framework, the programme will enable defence companies to secure grant funding and test innovative solutions directly on the frontline.
Launch of joint defence tech manufacturing: in parallel, the parties are working to expedite the launch of joint production of Ukrainian security solutions on Swedish territory.

In addition, the parties held a substantive discussion on the aviation component, including the potential supply of Gripen aircraft and the transfer of Meteor missiles, which are key tools for countering aircraft carrying guided aerial bombs.
