Yuriy Dzhygyr discussed measures to strengthen anti-corruption activities with representatives of NATO and the US Department of Defense

Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Yuriy Dzhygyr met with representatives of NATO Headquarters in Brussels and the Office of the Inspector General of the US Department of Defense.

The meeting's major focus was the results of an external review of the quality of the internal audit function of Ukraine's Ministry of Defense, as well as ways to improve anti-corruption actions.

Yuriy Dzhygyr highlighted the main areas of work of the Audit Committee of the Ministry of Defense and addressed the outcomes of the collaboration between the Internal Audit Service and the Department for the Prevention and Detection of Corruption. Joint efforts are aimed at increasing the efficiency of resource management, preventing illegal use of defense resources, and reducing corruption risks.

Colonel Serhiy Stepanyan, the acting director of the Department for Prevention and Detection of Corruption at the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, reported that 174 control measures and 164 anti-corruption inspections were implemented during the second quarter of 2024. 43 proceedings regarding possible corruption offenses were sent to law enforcement agencies, which made it possible to prevent losses to the state in the amount of UAH 77.94 million.

"Strengthening measures to prevent corruption risks is one of the priorities of the Ministry of Defense. The cooperation of the Audit Committee of the Ministry of Defense with the Departments of Internal Audit and the Prevention and Detection of Corruption ensures compliance with the principles of integrity, efficiency and legality in the use of defense resources," said Yuriy Dzhygyr, who is also the head of the Audit Committee of the Ministry of Defense.

This meeting was another initiative of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, which is working in close collaboration with international partners to ensure the efficiency and transparency of the defense sector.
