Ukrainian Legion starts recruiting volunteers abroad

The Ukrainian Legion has officially commenced the recruitment of new recruits, with the intention of drawing in Ukrainians residing abroad to join the Ukrainian Defence Forces.

The first recruitment center was inaugurated at the Ukrainian Consulate in Lublin, Poland. The center operates from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, without a break for lunch.

A group of over fifteen Center personnel, who are Ukrainian Armed Forces officers on temporary assignment from Ukraine, will offer guidance and support during the recruitment procedure.

“Within the center is a military medical commission consisting of doctors and medical personnel with all the necessary equipment to carry out health checkups and issue conclusions on fitness for service. Once the formalities are completed, the volunteers will undergo training at the training ground provided by the Polish side,” said the First Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine, Ivan Havryliuk.

According to him, Ukraine provided uniforms and logistical support, while Polish partners provided weapons and equipment.

Interested individuals can apply to join the Ukrainian Legion by submitting their applications online on the Legion’s official website or via consulates and embassies.

In the initial days following the establishment of the recruitment center in Lublin, a total of 138 interview requests were submitted via the website, with an additional 58 coming through consular offices. Following the request processing, the recruitment center personnel reach out to applicants for an initial interview, verification of information, and assignment of roles.

Individuals holding Ukrainian citizenship are invited to the recruitment center for an interview with the commander, where the role is determined, documents are validated, and a referral for a medical checkup is handed out.

Once the examination test is passed, the volunteer will receive a contract signing date, typically scheduled two weeks following the completion of all screenings.

“After the contract is signed, the volunteers attend a 35-day training program at the training ground. Subsequently, the service members could be relocated to one of NATO's bases in Europe to receive extended training for several months,” Ivan Havryliuk added.
