Ukraine will test Estonian missiles to shoot down drones
Ukraine is set to receive air defense missiles from the Estonian defense company Frankenburg Technologies for testing. The first samples for trials will arrive within the coming months.
This was discussed in Kyiv during a meeting between Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Defense, Brigadier General Anatolii Klochko, and the leadership of the company. The missiles to be tested by Ukraine are designed primarily to counter UAVs and can target objects at altitudes of up to 2 km.
“Our goal is to help Ukraine win this war. To achieve that, we are offering a prototype of a new, affordable missile for downing airborne targets, particularly unmanned aerial vehicles,” stated Frankenburg Technologies' CEO, Kusti Salm.
He added that, if the trials are successful and further use is agreed upon, production of these missiles could be established in Ukraine. Both sides preliminarily agreed that the next step may involve determining the format for financing missile production.
Deputy Minister of Defense Anatolii Klochko emphasized that it is crucial for Ukraine to have a broad arsenal of missile weapons to counter russian aggression. He urged foreign manufacturers to provide such weaponry to Ukraine and to test it in combat conditions.
“We are open to collaboration and ready to utilize various models of modern weaponry,” said the Deputy Minister.
