Ukraine will continue to step up its strike and technological pressure on russia. The priorities are supporting the front line, building up long-range capabilities, scaling up tech, asymmetric solutions and saving the lives of Ukrainian soldiers.
Acting Minister of Defence of Ukraine Evgeniy Khmara said this following a meeting with newly appointed Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Major General Mykhailo Drapatyi.
A shared position on developing the Defence Forces
Evgeniy Khmara and Mykhailo Drapatyi agreed to work together openly and to resolve any differences in the interests of Ukrainian soldiers.
Together we will be able to carry out the President’s instructions and create the conditions for our Defence Forces to operate at maximum effectiveness
The talks produced a shared vision for the development of Ukraine's Defence Forces, which President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has endorsed.
First steps: supporting the front line and pressuring the enemy
The Acting Minister of Defence added that brigade and corps commanders had briefed him on the specific challenges the Defence Forces face today.
The Ministry of Defence’s first steps include:
- supporting the front line;
- strengthening work with partners;
- taking the war onto the aggressor’s territory as far as possible.
To that end, the Ministry of Defence will work to give combat units steady and flexible access to effective weapons, including long-range systems, and to advance technologies and asymmetric solutions.
Technological advantage and saving soldiers’ lives
The goal remains unchanged: giving the Ukrainian army a technological advantage over the russian enemy and saving as many lives as possible through technological change.
Ukraine needs to scale up solutions that have already proven effective: deep strike and middle strike, unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) and other technologies that save soldiers’ lives and help destroy the enemy more effectively.
Evgeniy Khmara and Mykhailo Drapatyi also discussed their vision for the future development of the Defence Forces. They are working together on a strategy: practical steps that should help end the war on Ukraine’s terms and force russia into a lasting peace.
