Ukraine to receive €60 billion to strengthen defence capability – European Parliament decision

The European Parliament approved a package of legislative acts to provide Ukraine with a €90 billion loan for 2026–2027 to finance urgent needs.

Of this total, €60 billion will be allocated to strengthening Ukraine’s defence capability and procuring military equipment both in Ukraine and in the European Union and European Free Trade Association countries — Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway.

“We expect the funds to be disbursed swiftly so these resources reach the front line without delay. In this war, speed is just as important as weapons. I thank the President—this is the result of diplomatic efforts on the international stage. We are grateful to our European partners for their sustained support for Ukraine,” Ukraine’s Minister of Defence Mykhailo Fedorov emphasised.

Under the terms of the loan, Ukraine will be required to repay it if russia pays reparations for the damage caused by the war.
