Ukraine to equip another 4,000 km of roads with anti-drone protection by year’s end

Ukraine is accelerating the installation of anti-drone nets to protect border areas from enemy UAVs. By the end of 2026, plans call for 4,000 km of roadways to be equipped with anti-drone protection.

“Near the front line, Russia employs drones as instruments of terror against civilian vehicles, emergency responders, and repair teams. On the President’s instructions, we are reinforcing protection in frontline areas and accelerating the installation of anti-drone nets. Priority is being given to roads that sustain logistics and support communities near the line of contact,” said Ukraine’s Minister of Defence Mykhailo Fedorov.

An additional UAH 1.6 billion in budget funds has been allocated for anti-drone nets. In February, despite adverse weather conditions, coverage was extended to 125 km of roads and 55 km of structures were restored.

Over the course of a month, the pace of anti-drone protection installation increased from 5 km per day in January to 12 km per day in February. This has significantly improved the safety of military movement and ensured the steady functioning of frontline communities.

“As early as March, we plan to protect 20 km of roads per day. By year’s end, an additional 4,000 km of roads are planned to be equipped with anti-drone protection,” Mykhailo Fedorov said.

In parallel, fortification works have been accelerated in the Kharkiv, Sumy, and Chernihiv regions to bolster defensive resilience and counter enemy offensive operations.
