Ukraine and the United Kingdom strengthen their defence partnership
On the sidelines of DFNC3, the International Defence Industries Forum, the UK Secretary of State for Defence and the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine signed a Statement of Intent regarding the LYRA programme – a partnership in battlefield technology.
“Ukraine and the United Kingdom are expanding their defence partnership. The document outlines the parties’ intention to jointly develop and scale up defence technologies. In particular, our countries have agreed to establish a working group to coordinate joint projects under the LYRA programme,” said the Minister of Defence of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal.
According to him, the goal of LYRA is to strengthen the defence capabilities of both countries by combining the Ukrainian and British defence-industrial and scientific potential, enabling joint development, modernisation, and scaling up of the production of essential weapons systems.
In addition, a project agreement was signed with the United Kingdom on joint artillery production.
“I am grateful to the United Kingdom for its strong contributions to strengthening Ukraine’s defence capabilities. Together, we are enhancing the security of all of Europe,” emphasised Denys Shmyhal.
