Ukraine and Sweden agreed to jointly produce defense products in both countries

Міністр оборони України Денис Шмигаль та Міністр оборони Швеції Пол Йонсон підписали Лист про наміри щодо спільного виробництва оборонної продукції в обох країнах

Ukraine’s Minister of Defence, Denys Shmyhal, and Sweden’s Minister of Defence, Pål Jonson, signed a Letter of Intent on the joint production of defense products in both countries.

This agreement between the Ministries of Defence reinforces bilateral efforts and sets the conditions for carrying out joint defense industry projects.

The Letter further outlines the commitment to ongoing technology and knowledge exchange in arms and military equipment production to bolster the resilience and self-reliance of Ukraine’s and Sweden’s defense industries.

During a meeting with his Swedish counterpart in Kyiv on 23 August, Denys Shmyhal thanked the Swedish government and people for their unwavering and comprehensive support of Ukraine in resisting russian aggression, including their participation in the PURL initiative and the joint allocation of $486 million with Norway and Denmark.

During the talks, the Ukrainian side briefed the Swedish delegation on the current battlefield situation and the key requirements of the Defence Forces of Ukraine.

The delegations discussed prospects for cooperation in military aviation, including training for pilots and collaborative projects between Swedish and Ukrainian companies.

“I thanked the Swedish government, especially for the delivery of ASC 890 airborne early warning and control aircraft,” said the Ukrainian Minister of Defence.

The immediate prospects for cooperation include advancing military innovations to accelerate their practical implementation and developing joint production initiatives. The delegations also addressed the strengthening of cooperation in the area of space technologies.
