Ukraine and Norway are strengthening their defense partnership: A new level of support and joint initiatives

During his official visit to Helsinki, Ukraine’s Defence Minister Rustem Umerov met with Norway's Minister of Defence Tore Onshuus Sandvik.
The primary focus of the talks was strengthening defense cooperation between Ukraine and Norway, particularly within the framework of the Capability Coalitions.
Rustem Umerov expressed gratitude to the Norwegian government for its decision to increase support for Ukraine in 2025 to $7.8 billion, with $4.6 billion allocated for military assistance.
“We are working together to ensure these resources are used as effectively as possible to strengthen our defense,” Rustem Umerov emphasized.
The parties discussed Norway's ongoing involvement in the Capability Coalitions, including the Maritime Capability Coalition and the Integrated Air and Missile Defense Coalition. They also explored prospects for industrial cooperation to advance defense production.
The meeting participants specifically focused on equipping and training a brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine with the support of the Scandinavian and Baltic countries.
