Ukraine and NATO define JATEC operational priorities

A meeting of the Senior Supervisory Board of the NATO-Ukraine Joint Analysis, Training, and Education Centre (JATEC) was held in Kyiv.
The meeting was attended by the Chair of the Senior Supervisory Board and NATO Assistant Secretary General for Operations Thomas Goffus, Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine Sergiy Boyev, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Brigadier General Oleh Apostol, JATEC Commander Brigadier General Wojciech Ozga, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, the NATO Representation to Ukraine, and the NATO-Ukraine Joint Analysis, Training, and Education Centre (JATEC).
Supervisory Board members agreed that convening the meeting in Kyiv, with participation from NATO representatives, the Polish Armed Forces, and other senior officials, serves as a strong signal of the Alliance’s solidarity with Ukraine.
“Undoubtedly, the ultimate goal of any initiative is a just peace and robust security for Ukraine. Both Ukraine and NATO are invested in the development of JATEC, as its outcomes benefit both sides,” emphasized Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine Sergiy Boyev.
During the meeting, the parties discussed strategic aspects of JATEC’s operations and the implementation of prior organizational objectives. Particular attention was given to integrating partners into JATEC’s activities, enhancing the resilience of information systems, supporting education and training programs, ensuring interoperability, and collaborating on solutions to address battlefield challenges.
Additionally, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleh Apostol, emphasized the importance of joint efforts in developing countermeasures against enemy fiber-optic-controlled FPV drones, which will be the focus of the upcoming NATO Innovation Challenge hackathon. Following a previous hackathon, during which teams proposed solutions to counter enemy guided aerial bombs (GABs), the resulting proposals are now undergoing testing and trials in combat conditions.
“Ukraine and NATO are growing closer to enhance cooperation and joint efforts across multiple domains, including resilience, civilian protection, and emerging technologies. Our activities within JATEC reflect the joint commitment of the Alliance and Ukraine to rapidly and jointly accomplish the tasks at hand,” said NATO Assistant Secretary General for Operations Thomas Goffus.
In conclusion, the JATEC Senior Supervisory Board set clear criteria for achieving the Center’s full operational capabilities and outlined the work plans for 2025–2026.
