Ukraine and Latvia are exploring the potential for establishing joint ventures to manufacture drones

Україна та Латвія розглядають можливість створення спільних підприємств для виробництва дронів

During the visit of the Latvian delegation to Kyiv, Ukraine's Defence Minister Rustem Umerov held a meeting with Latvian Saeima Speaker Daiga Mieriņa. The talks' primary focus was on enhancing cooperation between Ukraine and Latvia in the defense sector in 2025, particularly in the production and utilization of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

Latvia is one of the leaders of the Drone Coalition and makes significant efforts to engage new partners. During the most recent Ramstein format meeting, the leading countries agreed on a plan for the Coalition’s activities through 2027, including allies’ support commitments.

One of the key topics of the talks was the potential for establishing joint ventures to manufacture UAVs, specifically long-range drones.

“We can leverage the revenues from frozen russian assets to strengthen and develop this sector,” said Ukrainian Defence Minister Rustem Umerov.

The need to enhance Ukraine’s air defense capabilities was also a key topic of discussion. The Minister expressed gratitude to Latvia for its comprehensive and consistent support.

“Latvia continues to be one of the main advocates on the international stage and in Europe, particularly in advancing our air defense capabilities,” he emphasized.

The Latvian delegation, in turn, provided details on national legislative changes aimed at advancing the defense industry and strengthening cooperation between Ukraine’s and Latvia’s defense sectors.
