Ukraine and Germany strengthen cooperation in defence industry
Ukraine’s Defence Minister Denys Shmyhal and Germany’s Defence Minister Boris Pistorius signed an agreement on defence-industrial cooperation.
The signed agreement establishes a framework for expanding bilateral cooperation in the defence industry, technology, and innovation. It will facilitate the development of joint industrial projects to manufacture Lynx infantry fighting vehicles and ammunition in Ukraine, as well as to repair Gepard air-defence systems and Leopard tanks.
The agreement provides for, in particular:
- fostering innovation in the defence industry;
- joint research and development (R&D), modernisation, and technical support for production;
- procurement and exchange of technical information, experience, and best practices;
- joint participation in training programmes and courses.
“I am grateful to Germany for its significant contributions to supporting Ukraine, announced during the UDCG meeting. I would also like to commend Minister Pistorius for his personal leadership in supporting the Ukrainian people,” stated Minister of Defence of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal.
