Ukraine and Estonia discussed the key priorities for defense cooperation in 2025

Deputy Minister of Defence Sergiy Boyev discussed with the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence of Estonia, Kaimo Kuusk, the planning of aid for 2025 and Ukraine's priority needs.

The Ukrainian and Estonian sides summarized the key international events of the past week, such as the Ukraine Defense Contact Group meetings, the NATO-Ukraine Council meetings, the Munich Security Conference, and others. Sergiy Boyev and Kaimo Kuusk agreed that, despite any declarations, the aggressor has not abandoned its objectives and continues its terrorist activities.

“The main issue today is boosting the manufacturing capabilities of European countries. russia has not abandoned its plans, so we must remain strong and increase funding for the security and defense sector. The defense industry should be working at full capacity,” highlighted Sergiy Boyev.

Security support from Estonia was also one of the key topics of the meeting. The parties discussed the list of defense products that can be produced in-house and those that need to be sourced from other nations. The Estonian side assured it would soon present a list of military products and services from Estonian manufacturers, which will be supplied to Ukraine according to urgent requirements.

The parties also discussed the activities of the IT Coalition, with Estonia being one of its leaders, as well as the Drone Coalition. The Ukrainian Ministry of Defence team provided the Estonian colleagues with an overview of the priorities within the Coalitions and the mechanisms to expedite the procurement of required components. Kaimo Kuusk, for his part, outlined Estonia’s plans for its contributions to the IT Coalition in 2025 and the achievement of FPV drone production within the country.

Additionally, the discussion covered the recent opening of the NATO-Ukraine Joint Analysis, Training, and Education Centre (JATEC) in Poland, the equipping of the Nordic-Baltic Brigade, and collaboration in defense innovation. In summary, both parties described the meeting as pragmatic and expressed their commitment to advancing collaborative projects.
