The Ministry of Defence has streamlined the activities of the Interdenominational Council on Military Chaplaincy

The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine has approved the new Regulation on the activities of the Interdenominational Council on Military Chaplaincy at the Ministry of Defence (order dated 25.06.2024 No. 416/nm, registered by the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine on 11.07.2024 under No. 1047/42392).

The Interdenominational Council will facilitate cooperation between religious organizations whose clergy serve as military chaplains, discuss and resolve controversial issues, and participate in preparing relevant regulatory acts. The Council’s decisions are advisory and will be submitted for review to the Minister of Defence of Ukraine or Deputy Minister of Defence.

The Council is formed on the basis of denominational equality. Two representatives are appointed for each religious organization with clergy serving as military chaplains within the Ministry of Defence system. The Minister of Defence of Ukraine approves the personnel of the Interdenominational Council.

Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine Nataliia Kalmykova emphasized: “The Ministry of Defence is constantly monitoring the issues of implementing the constitutional right to freedom of convictions and religion regarding military personnel. We continue developing the institution of military chaplaincy and create all the conditions for each defender to get help and support regardless of religious views.”
