The Ukrainian Parliament has endorsed the draft law on the extension of social and legal protection of service members

Today, the Verkhovna Rada has adopted draft law No. 11483, which provides for amendments to Article 3 of the Law of Ukraine “On Social and Legal Protection of Military Personnel and Members of Their Families.”

The draft law was introduced by the President of Ukraine as urgent and received the support of 321 MPs.

The primary purpose of the draft law is to extend social guarantees and expand the circle of persons covered by this law to military personnel (as well as to their family members) performing combat missions outside Ukraine, on the territory of the aggressor state.

Furthermore, the draft law entails granting social benefits and rights for intelligence military service members of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine who are engaged in protecting the state border.

“The operation in the Kursk region is hailed as a remarkably complex military endeavor that will be etched in the annals of history. It is necessary to ensure that the guys feel our continuous support, which includes financial backing. Henceforth, they shall be entitled to identical remuneration and privileges as military personnel deployed on the front line. This also applies to their families,” noted Minister of Defence of Ukraine Rustem Umerov after the voting session.

He also added that the ratification of this draft law establishes in the statutory realm the legal protection of service members who partake in the defense and security of Ukraine on foreign soil.

It is important to note that the implementation of this law will not require additional expenditures from Ukraine's state budget.
