The procedure for payment of one-time financial assistance in the event of a service member’s death has been updated
The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine has updated the procedure for the assignment and payment of one-time financial assistance (OFA) in the event of the death of service members of the Armed Forces of Ukraine during martial law.
The amendments aim to guarantee stable and predictable financial support for the families of fallen defenders, taking into account the growth in defense expenditures caused by the full-scale russian aggression.
The new rules will apply to cases of death officially certified by a death certificate, effective from September 1, 2025. For family members of deceased service members whose deaths were certified before this date, the procedure and payment terms remain unchanged.
According to the amendments to the relevant orders:
- the total amount of the OFA remains unchanged at UAH 15 million;
- the payment of one-fifth of the total OFA (UAH 3 million) shall be made immediately;
- the remaining four-fifths of the OFA (UAH 12 million) will be disbursed in equal monthly installments over 80 months according to a fixed schedule. This amounts to approximately UAH 150,000 per month, ensuring long-term financial support for the families.
The implementation of an evenly distributed payment schedule enhances the planning and resilience of the support system while maintaining the immediate portion of assistance to meet the urgent needs of families of Ukrainian service members.
The applicable rules for the payment of the OFA shall apply to all units within the Security and Defence Forces of Ukraine.
