The Ministry of Defense has codified more than 20 models of special light motor vehicles since the beginning of 2024

In 6 months of 2024, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine codified and approved for operation in the Armed Forces of Ukraine more than 20 samples of special light motor vehicles designed for movement on rough terrain and performing tasks on water. For comparison, in 2023, the arsenal of the defense forces was replenished with 7 models of such transport.

The list of codified models includes products of well-known manufacturers of all-terrain light vehicles from the USA, Asia and Europe. Among the new models are buggies (small light vehicles with high cross-country ability), motorcycles with electric motors and internal combustion engines, four- and six-wheeled quadricycles and hexacycles. Hydrocycles — vehicles for moving on water – are also codified for the needs of the defense forces.

The range of use of such vehicles at the frontlines is quite wide. Light all-terrain motor vehicles are used to move personnel and cargo in difficult terrain and lack of roads, to evacuate the wounded, provide logistical support for frontline positions, conduct reconnaissance or used as mobile firing points.

Note: According to the Main Directorate for Life Cycle Support of Arms and Military Equipment, the procedure for obtaining a NATO nomenclature code for a new model of weapons and military equipment (WME) has been simplified to 10 days. Models of domestically produced WME that have passed codification are allowed to be purchased at the expense of the state budget.
