The Ministry of Defence showcased military innovations at NATO Edge 24 exhibition
At the NATO Edge 24 exhibition in the United States, Ukraine's Ministry of Defence showcased digital innovations designed to enhance the operational effectiveness of military personnel on the battlefield.
In particular, the Center for Innovation and Development of Defense Technologies presented the following:
• The DELTA combat system, designed to assist in operational planning;
• The Avengers platform, leveraging artificial intelligence to identify enemy equipment;
• Integration capabilities between DELTA and advanced weapon systems, including MAGURA maritime drones, NEMESIS bomber drones, and VECTOR reconnaissance UAVs.
Lieutenant Colonel Artem Martynenko, Deputy Head of the Center for Innovation, briefed conference participants on using the Avengers artificial intelligence platform, which performs detection and analyzes video feeds from drones and stationary cameras. He also noted that the Center for Innovation owns the Universal Military Dataset (UMD), the world's leading detailed, annotated dataset of russian military equipment.
“Ukraine has to be a leading country in innovation to protect itself and fight an overwhelming and ruthless enemy. We did not choose this reality, but in the circumstances we face, we seize every opportunity and utilize all available resources to devise effective solutions. russia's large-scale invasion has opened up access to thousands of photographs and video materials featuring enemy equipment. We collected, organized, and tagged this dataset. This helped us create a “pipeline” for AI models. This was exactly what laid the foundation for the development of the Avengers platform,” said Artem Martynenko.
Lieutenant Colonel Yelyzaveta Boiko, Head of the Center for Innovation, elaborated on the role of the DELTA system in the successful conduct of several combat operations. As examples, she cited the sinking of the large amphibious assault ship 'Tsezar Kunikov' and several other important russian ships during naval missions. Additionally, she pointed to the destruction of a multimillion-dollar enemy air defense system using a $1,000 drone.”
“The technologies and solutions we present are not just innovations; they represent a true shield for Ukraine, helping our warriors secure victories and save lives. We take pride in the fact that Ukrainian innovations play a pivotal role in the fight for freedom and independence,” stated Yelyzaveta Boiko.
The organizers of the conference expressed their gratitude to Ukraine for the participation of the Ministry of Defence delegation in NATO Edge 24 and for providing up-to-date insights into battlefield technology deployment. The organizers also highlighted Ukraine's role as a reliable partner of NATO.
