The Ministry of Defence joined efforts to update NATO standards on education and training

During a meeting of the NATO Learning Technology Interoperability Group (NLTIG), the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine presented key achievements in transforming Ukraine’s military education system and the procedures for conducting its institutional audit. The Ukrainian delegation also outlined plans for certifying professional military education courses in accordance with NATO standards in 2026. 

“Participation in such a high-level event marks an essential step toward ensuring the integration and interoperability of Ukraine’s military education system with those of NATO member states. We had the opportunity to contribute to discussions on refining the NATO ‘Education and Training’ standard, which guides the transformation of our military education system, and to share our own experience in implementing reforms and addressing the challenges of their execution,” said Volodymyr Mirnenko, Head of the Department of Military Education and Science of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, who led the Ukrainian delegation.

Foreign counterparts provided positive feedback on the draft Policy of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine for Ensuring the Quality of Professional Military Education.

According to Volodymyr Mirnenko, they expressed hope that NATO’s recommendations, combined with Ukraine’s experience in wartime operations, would foster an innovative environment within Ukraine’s military education system.

The NATO Learning Technology Interoperability Group (NLTIG) meeting took place in Halmstad, Sweden. 

Representatives of the relevant structural units of the defense ministries of NATO member states and Ukraine discussed the revision of NATO education and training standards, current trends in educational technology and digital transformation, and the launch of new e-learning courses.
